• 1Use the flight to understand the northern islands before or after visiting them by boat. Seeing Flat Island, Îlot Gabriel and the surrounding reef from above makes their geography much easier to understand.
• 2Photograph the transition between lagoon and deep ocean, not only the islands. The most distinctive aerial feature of northern Mauritius is often the sharp change in water colour around the reef.
• 3Keep your camera ready from takeoff. On a 15–20 minute flight, the water departure, coastline and first reef views are already part of the experience rather than a long transfer to the sightseeing area.
• 4Choose the northern flight instead of Le Morne when offshore islands interest you more than the underwater-waterfall illusion. The two seaplane experiences show very different landscapes.
