In Mauritius we’re blessed to be surrounded by sugarcane fields and one of the main cultivation is exclusively own by La Rhumerie de Chamarel for its artisanal, authentic Mauritian rum production. The distillery is located off the South West of Mauritius, in the region of Chamarel -this location might sound familiar to you as it homes a few of the best places to see in Mauritius, along with the most exciting and thrilling activities. In fact, talking about sugarcane fields – you will notice them along the journey through Chamarel and its surroundings – prior to reaching La Rhumerie de Chamarel. The distillery has, since a few years, been of a great interest to tourists and is favored among many while visiting the region. Blame it on its exceptional landscaping and probably on its rum tasting too ;).

 

Visitors of La Rhumerie de Chamarel get a guided tour within the surroundings, where they have a detailed explanation and sight of the rum-making procedures and will even be able to witness the engines/machines used during the production.

The rum available at La Rhumerie de Chamarel differs from far from your typical rum; they’ve got flavors of all kinds to surprise you. Think Spices Rum and Vanilla Rum…They also have a great collection of aged rum and premium rum; these make great gifts to your drinking buddy too!

 

An on-site restaurant can also be enjoyed while at La Rhumerie de Chamarel. It serves an exquisite menu and specializes in exotic local delicacies that are not to be missed! Find yourself a seat at lunch time or tea time. The restaurant also caters to dinner time (on request).
