The World of Seashells in Mauritius is a unique indoor attraction dedicated to the beauty, science and mystery of seashells. Located in Bel Ombre, this museum is the only seashell museum in Mauritius and is home to the largest seashell collection on the African continent, making it one of the most original family-friendly attractions in the south of the island.
Opened in December 2019, the World of Seashells features more than 8,000 seashells and around 1,500 species, displayed across a gallery of about 420 m². The museum is divided into five visiting zones: Myths & Legends, The Shell Theorem, Coming Out of Your Shell, Eco-Shells and The Shells Collection, giving visitors a complete journey through marine life, shell formation, culture, conservation and natural design.
