The World of Seashells in Mauritius is a unique indoor attraction dedicated to the beauty, science and mystery of seashells. Located in Bel Ombre, this museum is the only seashell museum in Mauritius and is home to the largest seashell collection on the African continent, making it one of the most original family-friendly attractions in the south of the island.
Opened in December 2019, the World of Seashells features more than 8,000 seashells and around 1,500 species, displayed across a gallery of about 420 m². The museum is divided into five visiting zones: Myths & Legends, The Shell Theorem, Coming Out of Your Shell, Eco-Shells and The Shells Collection, giving visitors a complete journey through marine life, shell formation, culture, conservation and natural design.
This experience is ideal for families, children, nature lovers, marine enthusiasts and visitors looking for an educational activity in Mauritius. Children can enjoy the mini laboratory, where they can take part in fun and interactive activities such as designing their own shells, making the visit both creative and educational.
For travellers exploring the south of Mauritius, World of Seashells is a great addition to a Bel Ombre or Chamarel itinerary. It offers a calm, weather-friendly experience that combines discovery, marine heritage and family learning in one beautifully presented museum.
