Seaplane Flight in the North

The North Mauritius seaplane flight is a 15–20 minute scenic flight over the northern lagoon, reefs and offshore islands including Coin de Mire, Flat Island and Îlot Gabriel. The current MauritiusExplored experience lasts approximately 15–20 minutes and focuses on the northern lagoon and offshore islands. The route is described as taking in Coin de Mire, Flat Island and Îlot Gabriel, along with the reefs and colour changes of the surrounding sea.

One of the most distinctive parts of the experience happens before the aerial sightseeing even begins: the aircraft takes off from the water and returns with a water landing. For travellers who have never flown in a seaplane, that transition from lagoon to air is part of the attraction rather than simply transportation.

From altitude, Coin de Mire is especially easy to recognise because of its steep profile, while Flat Island and Îlot Gabriel reveal their relationship with the surrounding reef much more clearly than they do from sea level. The flight is therefore particularly interesting for travellers who have already visited the northern islands by boat and want to understand the landscape from another perspective.

The experience is also quite different from the Le Morne seaplane flight. Le Morne focuses on the southwest lagoon and underwater-waterfall illusion; the northern flight is about offshore islands, coral reefs and the geography of Mauritius’ north.
