Discover La Cuvette near Grand Baie in north Mauritius, a small beach for swimming, clear lagoon views and a quieter coastal stop. Plan 1–2 hours.
La Cuvette is a small beach near Grand Baie in northern Mauritius, known for clear lagoon water, a compact sandy cove and a quieter atmosphere than the town centre. It suits couples, families and travellers wanting an easy swim or short beach stop; allow around 1–2 hours.
Just outside the busiest part of Grand Baie, La Cuvette offers a much smaller and more intimate stretch of coastline. Instead of a long open beach, the shoreline curves around a compact sandy cove bordered by trees, rocks and clear lagoon water.
That smaller scale is one of La Cuvette's main advantages. You can arrive for a swim, spend some time beside the water and continue exploring northern Mauritius without committing half a day to a large beach.
The lagoon is one of the main reasons to stop. Swimming is a natural part of the experience when conditions are suitable, while casual snorkelling can be enjoyable around some of the rocky sections when the water is calm and visibility is good. La Cuvette is not positioned as one of Mauritius' major reef-snorkelling destinations, so snorkelling is better treated as an extra rather than the sole reason to visit.
La Cuvette also works well for travellers staying in Grand Baie who want a quieter coastal break without travelling far from the restaurants, shops and activity hub of the village. Grand Baie itself is one of the north's main centres for dining, shopping, nightlife and boat departures.
For most travellers, around 1–2 hours is enough for swimming, relaxing and photographs. Stay longer if you simply want an unhurried beach break.
La Cuvette may be less suitable if you are specifically looking for a long shoreline for extended walks, a large activity-focused beach or a completely secluded natural setting. Its strength is being small, convenient and calmer than central Grand Baie.
Combine it with Grand Baie for restaurants and shopping, or continue along the north coast towards Mont Choisy or Pereybere for a longer beach-focused itinerary.
