  • 1. Grand Baie

Grand Baie is the tourism hub of the north, known for its lively atmosphere, shopping, and excellent restaurants and bars. Grand Baie is more than just a beach – it's the heart of Mauritius' nightlife and tourism in the north. The bay itself offers calm waters perfect for swimming and water sports. The area is surrounded by shops, restaurants, and bars making it the perfect destination for those who want to combine beach time with entertainment.

  • 2. La Cuvette

La Cuvette near Grand Baie is suited to a shorter lagoon stop. Check beach access, swimming conditions and what to expect. La Cuvette is a small beach near Grand Baie in northern Mauritius, known for clear lagoon water, a compact sandy cove and a quieter atmosphere than the town centre. It suits couples, families and travellers wanting an easy swim or short beach stop; allow around 1–2 hours. Just outside the busiest part of Grand Baie, La Cuvette offers a much smaller and more intimate stretch of coastline. Instead of a long open beach, the shoreline curves around a compact sandy cove bordered by trees, rocks and clear lagoon water.

  • 3. Pereybere

Can't decide whether you want family-friendly or white sand beaches with various food options? Well, you don't have to at Pereybere. The pristine shore's beauty is only matched by the bright blue waters, which are prime for swimming and snorkeling, icing-sugar sand and of course a set of open-air food joints… voila! Job done! Paradise found! Indeed, if asked to design and illustrate your perception of a perfect beach, Pereybere is probably what you would come up with.

  • 4. Bain Boeuf

Bain Boeuf puts Coin de Mire centre stage, with lagoon scenery and opportunities for a short beach visit or conditions-dependent snorkelling. Bain Boeuf is a quieter beach area on the north coast of Mauritius, between Pereybere and Cap Malheureux, known for lagoon scenery and views towards Coin de Mire. It suits couples, photographers, snorkellers and travellers seeking a relaxed coastal stop rather than a busy swimming beach. Bain Boeuf is one of those north-coast stops where the view is as important as the beach itself. Set between the Pereybere and Cap Malheureux area, the shoreline looks across the lagoon towards the distinctive outline of Coin de Mire, giving the location a very different character from the busier beaches closer to Grand Baie.

  • 5. Notre Dame Auxiliatrice at Cap Malheureux

The most photographed church in Mauritius, with its iconic red roof overlooking the sea. The chapel with the red roof, Notre Dame Auxiliatrice, at Cap Malheureux, is very famous and probably one of the most well-known photography spots in Mauritius. Located at the most northerly point of Mauritius, this is where the British first landed before laying claim to the island in 1810.

  • 6. Butte à L'Herbe

Butte à L’Herbe near Calodyne brings shaded picnic areas, footbridges and volcanic shoreline into one compact coastal stop. Butte à L’Herbe is a quiet coastal area near Calodyne in northern Mauritius, reached across small bridges and shaded by trees. It suits travellers looking for picnics, photography and peaceful seaside walks rather than a busy swimming beach or organised watersports stop. Butte à L’Herbe offers a different side of the north of Mauritius. Instead of a long resort-lined stretch of sand, you arrive at a small coastal area near Calodyne, connected to the mainland by small bridges and surrounded by water, trees and rocky shoreline.

  • 7. Grand Gaube

Grand Gaube offers a fishing-village waterfront, small boats and northern lagoon views. Plan a coastal visit beyond the resort strip. Grand Gaube is a quiet fishing village on the northeast coast of Mauritius with a public beach, lagoon views and small boats along the shore. It suits couples, photographers and travellers seeking a more local coastal atmosphere; allow around 1–2 hours for a relaxed visit. Grand Gaube offers a very different version of northern Mauritius from the restaurants, shops and nightlife of Grand Baie. Here, the coastline meets a long-established fishing village, where small boats on the water and everyday village life are as much part of the experience as the beach itself.
