Mauritius Travel Form: How to Complete the Official Free Form Correctly

Last checked: 1 October 2026.

Before you fly to Mauritius you complete one digital form. It takes about ten minutes, it is free, and the only address you need is safemauritius.govmu.org.

That last point is why this page exists. Search for the form and you will meet commercial sites offering to submit it for you for a fee. The Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority addresses them directly, stating that "any third party offering the processing of this form as a paid service is not endorsed by the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority (MTPA) or the Mauritian authorities". MTPA

This page is the walkthrough: what each of the six steps asks for, what to have ready, what the law says, and how to tell the government site from a look-alike. For visas, passport validity, the tourist fee and customs allowances, see our Mauritius entry requirements guide, which owns that wider picture.

What Is the Mauritius All-in-One Travel Form?

It is the digital pre-arrival form travellers complete online at safemauritius.govmu.org before flying to Mauritius. It runs to six steps — travel, personal, accommodation, emergency contact, health symptoms and a declaration — and produces a confirmation with a QR code that is scanned at the health and immigration counters on arrival. The portal states it is completely free of charge and that proof of completion is required at boarding.

The Official Link, and Why the Domain Matters

•        The form: safemauritius.govmu.org — the government portal, run by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and the only place to complete the form.

•        Check the domain, not the design. Mauritian government services sit on .govmu.org. A polished .com address with a similar name is not the government.

•        No official intermediary exists. There is no priority processing, no paid fast-track and no agency route. Airports of Mauritius asks travellers to "use only the official platform available on https://safemauritius.govmu.org/".

•        One hyphen is the whole difference. Look-alike domains exist that differ from the official address only by punctuation or suffix. Type the address into your browser bar rather than clicking a search advert.

Is the Form Mandatory? What the Law Actually Says

This is the question most guides get wrong in both directions, because Mauritian official sources do not all use the same language.

The portal is unambiguous. Its opening screen states that "travellers are required, under Mauritian law, to complete the Health Declaration Form before travelling to Mauritius", and adds the consequence in terms no other source publishes: "refusal to complete the form, or knowingly providing false information, may result in a fine of up to MUR 500,000 and imprisonment of up to 5 years".

The airport operator is softer. Airports of Mauritius writes that "prior to travel, it is recommended that all travellers fill out the Mauritius All in One travel form". The SSR International Airport arrival page is firmer again, stating that the form "needs to be completed for all passengers, including minors, for presentation of the generated QR Code at Immigration and Health counters upon arrival in Mauritius".

The practical reading. Treat it as required. The strongest statement comes from the portal that actually collects the data and from the ministry that runs it, and it is the only one that attaches a penalty. The softer airport wording describes what happens operationally if you turn up without it, not a legal exemption.

What happens if you arrive without it. You are not refused entry. Airports of Mauritius states that "if you have not filled out the All in One travel form, foreign nationals must fill out an Immigration Disembarkation Card on arrival at the airport", and the airport warns that "disembarkation procedures will take longer than usual". So the paper card still exists as a fallback — but the portal's penalty wording is about refusal and false information, which is a different matter from simply arriving unprepared.

When Should You Complete It?

Before you leave for the airport — and earlier than you probably think, because of one line most travellers miss.

•        Proof is required at boarding. The portal states plainly: "proof of completion of the form will be required at boarding." That moves the deadline from your arrival in Mauritius to your departure airport.

•        The French-language airport guidance agrees. Airports of Mauritius tells travellers in French that they are invited to complete the form "avant l'enregistrement à l'aéroport de départ" — before check-in at the departure airport.

•        No official deadline in hours or days is published. No Mauritian government source states a minimum such as 24 or 72 hours, and none publishes an opening window such as 30 days ahead. Any such figure you meet online comes from a commercial site, not the government.

•        The sensible rule. Complete it once your flight and accommodation are confirmed and you have everyone's passport in front of you. A day or two before departure is comfortable; at the check-in desk is not.

If you see a specific advance-submission window quoted anywhere, including on other pages of this site, treat it as unverified until the portal itself publishes one.

What You Need Before You Start

Have these in front of you and the form takes about ten minutes per traveller. Hunting for them mid-form is what turns ten minutes into forty.

•        Every passport, physically open. You need the number, the date of issue and the date of expiry, plus country of birth and nationality. Type them from the document, not from memory.

•        Flight details. Airline and flight number, date of arrival, and your initial port of embarkation — the airport you started from, which is not always the one you fly to Mauritius from.

•        Your accommodation address in Mauritius, with a phone number and email for the property. A booking confirmation usually has all three.

•        Proposed length of stay in days, and your purpose of travel.

•        Countries you have visited in the last six months. The form asks. Think about this before you start rather than guessing.

•        An emergency contact who can be reached while you are in Mauritius: name, country, phone, email and address.

•        A working email address that you can open while travelling, because that is where your confirmation goes.

One quirk worth knowing: the portal validates that the difference between your passport's issue and expiry dates is no more than ten years. If your passport is unusual in that respect, expect the field to push back.

Step by Step: The Six Screens

The portal presents the form as six numbered steps. Fields marked with an asterisk are required.

Step 1 — Travel Information

You begin by choosing whether you are travelling by air or by sea, then give your country of residence and your flight or ship details: airline, flight number and date of arrival. There is a "my flight is not listed" option if your airline or flight does not appear in the dropdown, which matters on charter and codeshare services. You then give your purpose of travel, your proposed length of stay in days, your initial port of embarkation, and the countries you have visited in the last six months.

Step 2 — Personal Information

Title, last name, first name, middle name, gender, date of birth, country of birth, nationality, country of residence, passport number, date of issue, date of expiry, occupation, mobile number, email and permanent address. Names must match the passport exactly, including middle names and any hyphenation. A transposed passport digit is the single most common reason for a problem at the counter.

One exception is published on the portal itself: as part of what it calls the "Mauritius without a passport" measure, French travellers resident in Réunion may enter a valid identity card number instead of a passport number.

Step 3 — Accommodation Information

Your address during your stay in Mauritius, plus a phone number, mobile number and email for the property. If you are moving between hotels, give the first one — the form is asking where you can be reached on arrival, not for a full itinerary.

Step 4 — Emergency Contact

The portal asks for the "name and contact information of a person who can be reached in case of an emergency while you are in Mauritius": name, country, phone number, email and address. Use someone at home who will actually answer, not a travelling companion sitting next to you on the same flight.

Step 5 — Signs and Symptoms

A health screening section listing fever, sore throat, skin lesions, cough, joint pain and breathing difficulties, with a free-text option for any other symptom. Answer it honestly on the day you submit. This is the part of the form that gives the portal its "Health Declaration" name and its Ministry of Health and Wellness ownership.

Step 6 — Declaration

You confirm the published declaration: "I declare that to the best of my knowledge all particulars supplied by me are correct and complete. I am aware that any false statements may render me liable to prosecution." Read it rather than clicking through it, given the penalties the portal publishes on its opening screen.

After You Submit

Airports of Mauritius states that the form "will generate a PDF document with a QR Code". Save that PDF to your phone and take a screenshot as well, so it is available without a data connection. Airports of Mauritius asks travellers to "print a hard copy of this completed form and present it to Health Officials on arrival at Mauritius Airport", while the airport's own arrival page describes the QR code being presented at the immigration and health counters. The two official sources word it differently, so the safe answer is to carry both a printed copy and the code on your phone.

Do Children Need Their Own Form?

Yes. The airport's wording is explicit that the form "needs to be completed for all passengers, including minors", each generating its own QR code. A parent or guardian completes it using the child's own passport details.

In practice that means one submission per traveller rather than one per family, including infants. Keep every QR code together in one place on one phone, with screenshots as backup, and have the printed copies in the same folder as the passports.

Getting It Wrong: Mistakes, Changes and Missing Confirmations

Here honesty is more useful than confidence. The portal publishes no correction or amendment procedure, and no official Mauritian source describes one. What follows is practical guidance, clearly marked as such rather than as published policy.

•        Check the confirmation the moment it arrives, while you still have time to act. Passport number, name spelling and arrival date are the three that matter most.

•        If details change before you submit, simply wait and submit once they are final.

•        If your flight or hotel changes after you submit, the pragmatic route is a fresh submission with the correct details, carrying both confirmations and being ready to explain at the counter. That is a sensible workaround, not a published procedure.

•        Carry your booking confirmations so that any mismatch between the form and reality can be resolved on the spot.

•        If a genuine error slipped through and you only notice at the airport, tell the officer at the health counter rather than hoping the scan passes unnoticed. The paper disembarkation card exists precisely for travellers whose digital submission is missing or unusable.

•        Do not pay anyone to fix it. Nothing about this form requires a paid intermediary, at submission or afterwards.

Given the portal's declaration wording about false statements, the distinction that matters is between an honest mistake you correct and a wrong detail you knowingly leave standing. Correct it.

Do Not Pay for a Free Form: Spotting the Official Site

This is a domain-literacy problem more than a scam story. Several commercial services present themselves as travel-form providers and charge a service fee to submit a form the government provides free.

•        Official: the address ends in .govmu.org. For this form, safemauritius.govmu.org, and nothing else.

•        Not official: a .com or .net address, however similar the name, and any site asking for a service fee on top of a free form.

•        A payment request is the tell. The official form carries no charge at all, so a payment page for the form itself means you are in the wrong place.

•        Read the small print rather than the headline. Several of these operators do disclose, in a footer, that they are not affiliated with any government. At least one describes the official portal as a way to apply "for a lower cost" — the government form is not cheaper, it is free.

•        Search adverts are not endorsements. A paid result sits above the government portal for some queries, including at least one domain that differs from the official address by a single hyphen.

•        The same principle applies to visas. The Passport and Immigration Office publishes that "visa is free of cost", so a fee for the visa itself is likewise a warning sign.

Is the Travel Form the Same as a Visa?

No, and this is the most common confusion of the lot.

The travel form is an arrival declaration that every passenger completes, whatever their nationality. A visa is permission to enter, and whether you need one depends on your nationality. Completing the form does not grant you entry, and holding a visa does not exempt you from the form.

The Passport and Immigration Office publishes six visa categories — tourist, business, social, multiple entry, transit and medical — and states that "visas and extensions of stay are issued free of charge". For applicants who do need one, it publishes that a visa "will be issued as far as practicable within a period of twelve (12) working days" and that the "applicant is requested to apply for visa at least one month prior to travel". Applications go through diplomatic or consular representatives, or an Air Mauritius office, or by email where neither exists; no e-visa portal is published.

It also publishes the line every traveller should keep in mind: "a visa does not guarantee admission into Mauritius. The final decision to admit a passenger rests with the Immigration Officer after examination at the point of entry."

Check your own nationality on our visa requirements by country page and against the Passport and Immigration Office. One caution: the Immigration Office's country-by-country section did not render when we checked, so confirm your own position with a Mauritian diplomatic mission rather than relying on any third-party list, including ours.

What Else Do You Need to Enter Mauritius?

The form is one item on a short list. The airport publishes the rest of what immigration asks for:

•        A passport or recognised travel document "with expiry date beyond 6 months".

•        A visa or permit if your nationality requires one.

•        A "valid return/onward passage ticket to your country of origin or residence".

•        Proof of sufficient funds, published as "a minimum of USD 100 per day".

•        A "confirmed booking for accommodation in Mauritius".

•        A yellow fever vaccination certificate "for travellers over 1 year of age coming from potential infected areas".

One thing the form does not do is collect the tourist fee. That is a separate instrument of three euros per tourist per night for travellers aged twelve and over, in force since 1 October 2025, collected by your accommodation and remitted to the Mauritius Revenue Authority rather than paid at the airport or through the portal. Our entry requirements guide covers it and the customs allowances in full, and our holiday cost guide covers what it means for your budget. Mauritius Revenue Authority

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Mauritius travel form free?

Yes. The government portal states that the form is completely free of charge and that the Government of Mauritius does not charge any fee for it. Airports of Mauritius says the same twice over. Any website charging to submit it is a commercial intermediary, and the tourism authority states that such services are not endorsed by the Mauritian authorities.

Where is the official Mauritius All-in-One Travel Form?

At safemauritius.govmu.org, run by the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Check that the address in your browser ends in .govmu.org. Commercial look-alike sites with .com addresses rank in search results for these queries, including at least one differing from the official address by a single hyphen.

Is the Mauritius travel form mandatory?

The portal states that travellers are required under Mauritian law to complete it, and publishes penalties of up to MUR 500,000 and five years' imprisonment for refusing or knowingly giving false information. Airports of Mauritius uses softer wording. Treat it as required and complete it before you fly.

Do I need to show the Mauritius travel form at check-in?

The portal states that proof of completion will be required at boarding, and the airport's French-language guidance advises completing it before check-in at your departure airport. Have the PDF or QR code accessible before you reach the airline desk rather than assuming it is only needed on arrival.

Do children need their own Mauritius travel form?

Yes. The airport states the form is needed for all passengers including minors, each generating its own QR code. A parent or guardian completes it using the child's passport details. Keep every family member's QR code together on one phone, with screenshots as backup in case of no signal.

When should I complete the Mauritius travel form?

Once your flight and accommodation are confirmed, and before you leave for the airport. No official Mauritian source publishes a deadline in hours or days, or an advance window. Any specific figure circulating online comes from commercial sites rather than the government.

How long does the Mauritius travel form take?

About ten minutes per traveller if you have passports, flight details and your accommodation address in front of you. There are six steps: travel information, personal information, accommodation, emergency contact, signs and symptoms, and a declaration. Each traveller needs a separate submission.

What happens if my flight or hotel changes after I submit?

No official correction procedure is published. The practical approach is to submit again with the correct details, carry both confirmations and your booking documents, and explain at the health counter if asked. Do not pay a third party to amend it, because nothing about this form needs a paid intermediary.

What happens if I arrive without completing the form?

You are not refused entry. Airports of Mauritius states that foreign nationals who have not completed it must fill in an Immigration Disembarkation Card on arrival, and the airport warns that disembarkation procedures take longer than usual. It is a delay, not a refusal — but complete it anyway.

Is the travel form the same as a Mauritius visa?

No. Every passenger completes the travel form, whether or not they need a visa. A visa is separate permission to enter, depends on nationality, and is issued by the Passport and Immigration Office, which publishes that visas are issued free of charge and should be applied for at least a month before travel.

Do I need to print the Mauritius travel form?

The two official sources differ. Airports of Mauritius asks travellers to print a hard copy and present it to health officials, while the airport's arrival page describes the QR code being presented at the immigration and health counters. Save the PDF offline and carry a printed copy as well.

Does the travel form charge the tourist fee?

No. The three-euro-per-night tourist fee is separate, applies to travellers aged twelve and over, and is collected by your accommodation and remitted to the Mauritius Revenue Authority. It is not paid at the airport, not paid through the portal, and not connected to the form in any way.

What is the fine for not completing the Mauritius travel form?

The portal publishes that refusal to complete the form, or knowingly providing false information, may result in a fine of up to MUR 500,000 and imprisonment of up to five years. No official source describes this being applied to travellers who simply arrive without having filled it in, who complete a paper card instead.

Can I complete the form without a passport number?

Only in one published case. The portal states that as part of the "Mauritius without a passport" measure, French travellers resident in Réunion may enter a valid identity card number. Everyone else needs a passport number, taken from the document itself rather than from memory.
